SEOUL, S. Korea — Hyundai had planned to officially unveil its new European compact, code-named FD, on the eve of the Geneva auto show in early March. But the “official” images of the car, to be christened i30, began flooding Web sites across Europe on Wednesday.

The i30 (the name previously was used in North America by Infiniti) is a companion to the Kia Cee’d. It was first displayed in concept form at last fall’s Paris show, sporting the difficult-to-pronounce badge Arnejs.

Like the Cee’d, the i30 is a five-door hatchback; both share some basic architectural elements with the Hyundai Elantra. At the moment, Hyundai has no plans to market the i30 in North America.
